So. My foray into sleep training my darling little terrorist has begun. I bought Solve Your Child’s Sleep Problems: New, Revised, and Expanded Edition, received it yesterday, and delved into that book like my life depends on it. Turns out, it might. Allow me to drop some knowledge on you.
Humans cannot be totally deprived of REM sleep, at least not easily. Such studies have been done in animals; complete elimination of REM sleep led to withering and even death.
-Richard Ferber, M.D.,Solve Your Child’s Sleep Problems
What I’m reading here is that researchers have just been unsuccessful in fully depriving humans of REM sleep, but did you read that second part? When done in animals, it led to withering and even death. Fuck that shit. Now I know why I’ve always treasured my sleep so much!
Basically, what I’m saying is that when I said that my son is a terrorist trained in sleep deprivation as a torture device, I may not have been too far off the mark. So this is why I have to sleep train him now.
In other news, Jonathan has been sleeping quite well the past few nights. Last night was the worst…he was up all night with gas pains, and I finally put him in bed with me. I don’t like doing that because I get shitty sleep because he’s a noisy sleeper, and I’m hyper-aware of every movement and noise he makes, but tonight is already looking better.
